FAMILY READING NIGHT AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR EXTRAVAGANZA!

Hello!  Great news!!!

We are thrilled to be able to host two great talents in the children’s book world on Family Reading Night, Monday, February 11th, at 6 p.m.!

Sound the trumpets!  We will be visited by bestselling author AMY KROUSE ROSENTHAL whose children’s book  DUCK!  RABBIT! was named #1 of the year by Time Magazine,  and whose books almost always have a little twist that makes them especially appealing to children.  We also will meet MATTHEW CORDELL, whose book HELLO, HELLO was named one of 2012’s best illustrated by the New York Times, and whose books meld humor and heart in a perfect mix.  Both will be reading from their works as our main event!

In preparation for this special treat, we will be reading several titles by these talents in library, and we are accepting pre-orders for books, which the author and illustrator will be available to autograph. There is of course no obligation to make a purchase, however,  this literary souvenir is a great way to make the visit more meaningful to your child, to build your home library, and to encourage more time spent in the magic of a book.  Order forms will be sent home  on Monday, February 4th, and need to be returned to your child's classroom no later than Wednesday, February 6th.   Thank you to our local independent bookseller, The Book Cellar, for their support in this endeavor!  Details about the books are available below or by visiting the author's websites above.

We will also have special sessions featuring a Primary Teacher Reader's Theater (always much anticipated),  shadow puppet shows featuring the sixth grade players, a visit from a real live Jolly Postman with great stories to deliver, a bookmark craft and so much more!

This event is aimed at families of students in grades K-3 (brothers, sisters cousins!), though all Stone families are of course welcome.   All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Can't wait to see you there!

WUMBERS is a very cre8ive part-puzzle, part-book that will offer a lot of enligh10ment for children looking for a challenge or a chuckle!

ANOTHER BROTHER is a laugh-out-loud story of a little sheep with twelve (count 'em, twelve!)  brothers and sisters, who is trying to come to appreciate that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

DUCK, RABBIT is already a favorite of our primary crowd, as two different points of view come together to take optical illusions to a whole new level...what a fun book to read aloud in turns with a parent!

In FORGIVE ME, I MEANT TO DO IT:  FALSE APOLOGY POEMS, Inspired by William Carlos William's famous poem, "This Is Just to Say," we meet some pretty unreliable narrators.  Decorated with spot illustrations by our guest, samples from this book have already inspired third graders to create their own apology free verse and I'm so, so sorry, it may lead to many more pages turned and a love of poetry!

Aboslutely perfect for Valentine's Day, PLANT A KISS is a sparkly treat and a sweet and tiny tome about the special way love grows!

One of my very favorite titles of the year, HELLO! HELLO! is a book in which pictures tell a thousand words about a child who discovers the value of unplugging  and the real meaning of connection in the beep-beep-hurry-up-plugged-in-world.  A perfect family reading pick!

Come meet the author and illustrator on February 11th!
Hope to see you there!
