This Week's Classroom Connections

In 1st grade, we planted the seed to read with Muncha, Muncha Muncha by Candace Fleming, illustrated by G. Brian Karas.  Follow up with My Garden by Kevin Henkes, and parents, check out Sharon Lovejoy's Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots for a sunny start to your own family garden!

2nd grade loved the zany read aloud The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater.  Tooth-Gnasher Superflash by the same wacky author is just as much of a wild ride!

In 3rd grade, we read King Midas and the Golden Touch by Al Perkins.  If you liked that story, you will also enjoy The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling!

Rick Riordan Presents: Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky is now available on e-book to all CPS readers, no waiting list!  If you love mythology and legend and Percy Jackson (as I know so many readers in grades 4 and up do), you'll love this page-turning adventure!

In 5th grade, we used Joon and the Jade Bracelet by Helen Recorvitz, illustrated by Gabi Swiatkovska to make picture book comparisons and connections to Wonder by R.J. Palacio.  If you liked Wonder, you will love Roll With It by Jamie Sumner!

Lots of discussion about current events and racism/anti-racism in the middle school.  Did you know Stamped from the Beginning by Jason Reynolds Ibram X. Kendi is available as an audio book unabridged and FOR FREE on Spotify?  Wow, an important book and an important time to hear it!  Great for family discussion.

And the kindergarten will be beginning a unit on Australia.  Check out Australian Aboriginal musical ambassador Lewis Burns jamming on the didgeridoo!

Reading leads to more reading and more discovery.  It's okay to revisit favorites, too.  Keep making those connections, Stone Bookworms!  You're doing great!
