2017 Children's Book Award Winners

Hooray, the American Library Association announced this year's Youth Media Awards, kind of like the Academy Awards of children's literature...the most famous being the Caldecott for children's book illustration and the Newbery for writing!  What perfect timing, we have been studying children's book awards in the fifth grade. We already have several of this year's winners in our library collection already...Stone is always one step ahead, and Stone Bookworms are the real winners!  Check out the lists of all the ALA award-winning titles here and visit your school library, local branch library or independent bookseller to start turning pages!

An Amazing Gift to Stone!

A special thank you to the Bieschke family for a very extraordinary holiday donation to the school library:  an autographed copy of the picture book biography I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark by Debbie Levy and illustrated by Elizabeth Baddeley, autographed by Judge Ginsburg herself!!!

The inscription is as follows:
To the students of Stone Academy
May you thrive in the joys of reading and learning,
and in doing things outside yourself, things that will make life better for people less fortunate than you.

What an inspiration! Great words to carry our hearts and minds to new heights in the coming year. Please stop by and see/run your fingers reverently over the autograph for yourself, and read this wonderful and page-turning life story!  Thank you, Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg and thank you, Bieschke family!
