Bakery Decorating in the Library!

We at Stone enjoyed "SOAR day,"an exciting afternoon of exploring interests and community-building after a long week of testing.  All throughout rooms in the school there were wonderful options for students to choose from:  origami, yoga, an "Escape Room," paper flower making, basketball, science experiments... and thanks to a grant from Donor's Choose, we also had cake decorating in the school library!  Almost fifty children got to learn techniques and pipe frosting with professional-grade supplies. Thank you, Ms. Sophiea, for co-facilitating this workshop! Cake decorating is a skill that lasts a lifetime, just like reading...and both are delicious!

New and Very Special Branch Library in the 'Hood!

LUCKY US!!!  We now have a brand spanking new branch library within walking distance of Stone, so now you can wear out your library card instead of your credit card!  Our neighborhood library is spearheading an exciting Chicago Housing Authority and Chicago Public Library mashup, pretty unique to the city, you can read about the initiative here. The improved Northtown Branch has a teen area, 3-D printers, STEM take-home discovery bags, Homework Help as well as piles and piles of great picture books to feed our emergent reader population.  A special family day will be held on March 23 at the Northtown, a great opportunity to visit and explore the new space and say hello to Ms. Amy, the children's librarian, and Ms. Alex, the library's teen queen!  We have a wonderful, active partnership with this branch; look for our library card drive later this spring, so every Stone student can find their way to the new library and make use of the tremendous resources!
